For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, 1 Timothy 2:5-6
Today’s title could very well be the name of a new super-hero. It is indeed a reference to a Super-Hero, but He’s not new! A mediator is one who is a go-between, seeking to reconcile two parties who are at odds. It doesn’t take long for children to “learn” enough to know that there are other children that have what they don’t have and (whether they want it or not) they just have to have it, whatever it is. What is needed when two children want the same toy at the same time? A mediator; a go-between.
There is that deeper meaning that is attached to the word as well; a reconciler. As time goes by and children grow into adults, there may be times when relationships are damaged or even shattered and it seems as if those whom God intended to be there for one another will be forever apart. The only thing that will help these situations is a reconciliation. One thing that might help with that process is — a mediator.
So far, this has been about “a mediator” for this and “a mediator” for that. Now, let’s get to our Super-Hero; Jesus Christ, The Mediator. He is The Man! Literally, Jesus is the Man; He came to the earth and was born as a man so that He could redeem mankind from the curse of the Law. This makes Jesus the one and only mediator between God and man. You need someone to bridge that gap to God because it is a bridge too far. Everyone falls short of God’s glory and thus have no way to get to God on their own. God wants to reason together with you, but in can only be on His terms; no other way and no other go-between, only the Man Christ Jesus.
It’s not enough just to get to where God is and remain in your current state, you need a mediator who can enable you to be reconciled with God. Sin separates man from God and only through Jesus Christ can you be redeemed and made right with Him. As The Mediator, Jesus makes a way for you to be adopted into the family of God. It is not as if the God who created you has lowered His standard of what’s considered sin, it is that He sent His Son to redeem you from your sinful self and give you a new life with Him.
Finally, there is another aspect to the part our Super-Hero plays in your daily life; He is always praying for you. Jesus is interceding between you and the Father always. That means every time you face a situation and feel as if no one understands or is even aware of what you are going through, you not only have Someone who knows and understands but who also cares for you; even more than you could ever care for yourself!
Everyone needs a hero — someone who will fight on their behalf, someone who will believe in them even when they have trouble believing in themselves. Someone who will stand up for them and stand in the gap for them. Someone who will never give up on them and will never grow weary of being there for them. That sounds too good to be true; where could you find such a hero in this world? To find a hero like that you have to go back to before time began, for Jesus always was and always will be — The Mediator!
