The Fruit of God’s Works

He waters the hills from His upper chambers; The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works. Psalms 104:13

Since the beginning of time, we read about God’s works and, since the third day of creation we read throughout the Bible of the fruit of God’s works. It is no wonder that Paul tells us in the first chapter of Romans that anyone who chooses to deny the existence of God is without an excuse, for the works of God in creation are a constant proof that He is!

Why would anyone even want to deny that all things were created by God, our Creator? The Lord satisfies the earth and everything and everyone on the earth with the fruit of His doings. As you go through our Psalm for today you see verse after verse of all God has done and is doing. The Psalmist begins at the beginning — with light. The very presence of light in this dark world is a constant reminder that God is still at work in the hearts of whosoever will come to Him. He is overcoming darkness with light, even today!

That light reveals the rest of His works; both upon the earth and in the firmament above. Every one of the countless stars shines its unique light night after night turning our eyes and hearts toward heaven. The great lights of the day and night as well, are always carrying out the work for which God created them — to provide light and to declare the Lord’s glory.

The huge oceans with such a variety of life living in their depths are filled with the fruit of God’s works. Their mysteries are unfathomable yet they all reveal one thing; there is a God who created the vast seas and everything in them. God’s works don’t just extend to the oceans, as the majestic mountains rise toward the heavens they too proclaim the glory of their Creator. Many animals make their homes in those mountains and the Lord alone provides food and water for them. The trees as well are seen to reach toward their Creator and provide a resting place for the birds of the air.

All of this and so much that can never be recounted reveals what cannot be seen and makes known what cannot be known to the natural mind. That is, that an unseen God created everything that can be seen and all of His creation serves, besides its unique purpose for being, to bring forth the fruit of the knowledge of God — not just His existence, that there is a God, but the personal knowledge of who He is and why He created all things.

If you ever have trouble thinking of things to thank the Lord for, just look around at all that He has made and the fruit that comes forth from His creation. With that perspective, you can’t help but to praise and thank Him. A by-product of taking a fresh look at all God has done is that your faith is increased to believe that He will do what He has said He will do. After all, the same God who said, “Let there be light.” Is watching over you and ready to perform His good word toward you and yours.

The greatest of God’s works was finished on the cross of Christ as Jesus declared, “It is finished!” The work was done, but the fruit continues; in your life and in everyone who has received the free gift of salvation. You are the living fruit of God’s greatest work!
