God’s Child

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore, the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 1 John 3:1

Everyone comes into the world the same way and everyone leaves the world the same way; you bring nothing into the world with you and you take nothing with you when you leave it. Yet, some people are said to be, “born with a silver spoon in their mouth.” Of course, no child has ever been born with a spoon of any sort in their mouth, this is just a way of saying that some people are born into a wealthy family and therefore considered to have wealth themselves even from birth.

A new-born baby is not aware of the fact that they are born to a family that has money any more than if they were born into a family that is destitute. As a child grows, they become aware of what they have or do not have and eventually what, if anything, they “have coming to them” by way of an inheritance at some point in the future. Some people’s lives even become consumed with the hope of some future fortune they plan to inherit.

Back to the silver spoon metaphor; in short, it represents inherited wealth — wealth a person receives just because they were born. It wasn’t earned nor did the recipient do anything to obtain it. Inherited wealth is not something you achieve, it is something you receive. While most of us were not born with even a stainless-steel spoon, not being born into wealth or royalty, we all have a chance for a second birth.

That’s right, even though you had no choice in how you entered the world at birth, the God who created you loves you so much He wants you to be a part of His family. When you see a child that is lost and without any hope in this world, it is natural to feel pity for them and to want to do something to help. Indeed, there are many children throughout the world today that fit that description and many people come to their aid.

Your Heavenly Father sees you in your need. Spiritually speaking, there is no life and no hope without God’s help. God, being God and all, could do whatever He chose to help you and to alleviate your lack and meet your need to be made alive spiritually. He could just deem it so and it would be done. The Lord would not have to put Himself out to do anything specifically for you, for He has His angels to do His bidding and He could command them to do whatever needed doing on your behalf.

But, the Lord does not have a hands-off love for you. The type of love He has is the perfect example of hands-on love. Jesus came to the earth as a man and lived and died for you; in your place. He did for you what you could never do for yourself; He gave you a new life, eternal life.

Not only did Jesus come to the earth to show His love for you, the Father also chose to show you the depth of His love for you — by drawing up adoption papers (His Word) so that you can have an inheritance in eternity. That beats a silver spoon any day. You are God’s child!
