Don’t Doubt Your Destiny

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

What is your destiny? Or, to put it another way, what does your future look like? What is to be the outcome of your life? What are the particular events that will make up your journey in this life? Those are deep questions that would seem to be entirely unfathomable since you can’t see beyond right here and right now.

How can you have the answer to such profound questions when you cannot even be sure of what the weather will be like tomorrow? Because, even though you do not know the particulars, the Lord has revealed to you, through His Word, some specifics about His plans for your life. Our verse today reveals a glimpse into the kinds of thoughts the Lord thinks towards you.

Have you ever wondered how a perfect, holy God could love you so completely and have such positive thoughts toward you? If His future plans for you were based on your performance as His child, then some days you might imagine His plans for your destiny might be more settled than other days.

Praise God for His everlasting love, there is never a time when He has to reconsider whether or not to go through with His plans for your life and for your future. It would even be hard to imagine earthly parents making plans for their child’s future and then, suddenly the child falls down while learning to walk or spills a glass of milk all over the table or any one of a hundred things, and the parents decide to cut off their child from any future hope of anything from them. That’s it, they stumbled while learning to walk so they are disinherited from that moment on!

Fortunately, most earthly parents would not do such a thing but for sure, your heavenly Father will not. You cannot earn your destiny; it has been purchased for you by the Lord Jesus Christ and, when you receive the free gift of salvation, it is a part of the package! The Lord has a future for you and He has a hope that does not fade away, but is waiting to be fulfilled when that day comes.

Even if you find yourself in struggles and trials that seem to be hindering or even halting your progress toward your destiny, take heart in our Scripture for today and be reassured that God has not abandoned you or forgotten about you. It is not that He just doesn’t care about you, for Jesus is always making intercession on your behalf.

Your destiny is already settled in heaven even though you still have a long way to go in your journey and some more spiritual battles to fight along the way. You will face obstacles (maybe even in the form of those you love) but all of these are light and momentary compared to the glory that is a part of your destiny. Above everything, remember how your story ends; you may feel at times as if you lose some battles, but never forget, you get the victory in the end and live forever with the Lord. Don’t doubt your destiny!
