Blameless

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, Jude 1:24

Perhaps you have known someone who, when you first met them, seemed to be so perfect they were literally without fault. Then, as you got to know them better, you realized that they were not quite as perfect as they at first seemed to be. In fact, the closer you looked, the more imperfections you found until you eventually realized they just seemed to be so unblemished at first because you were not looking so closely.

Anyone or anything seen from a distance can seem to be without fault, but the closer you look, the more likely it is you will begin to perceive imperfections. Even the finest jewels that seem flawless to the unaided eye would reveal their flaws under the magnification of the jeweler’s eye loupe. If not, then the microscope would disclose any as yet undetected imperfections for, even unseen, they are there somewhere.

There are many ways people try to hide imperfections and indeed some can be hidden very effectively. The thing about hiding imperfections is that they are still there, even though not seen. Hiding or covering over an imperfection does not change the nature of that which has been hidden — it does not make it perfect or without blemish. The way things appear (and many times people as well) does not always reflect reality!

There is no one or no thing that is perfect in this world. God alone is perfect and without blemish. How then can Jude declare that the Lord is able to present you faultless, which means “unblemished, without blame, unblameable” before His very glory? God declared to Moses, who was called the friend of God, that he could not see the face of God when he asked to see God’s glory, but only His back. So, where does that leave you?

The Lord does not need a magnifying glass or a jeweler’s loupe to see that you are not perfect, for He knew all of your days before you were even formed in your mother’s womb. He knows all of your thoughts. He knows everything about you from beginning to eternity. He knows you much better than you know yourself and infinitely better than anyone else could know you, no matter how closely they look or how well they get to know you!

So, back to the question, where does that leave you? Because of God’s love for you and the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ, all things are made new. The old you with its imperfections and flaws has been crucified with Christ and all of your sins have been washed away by the cleansing blood of Jesus. He has become for you righteousness from God, so when the Father sees you, He does not see the faulty you — He sees the forgiven you!

The Lord intended from the very beginning that you would have fellowship with Him, have access into His presence, experience the glory of God and the joy that can only be found in the presence of your Creator. He is not looking at you through a magnifying glass trying to detect an imperfection or a flaw in your life. He paid a high price for you to be delivered from the curse of Sin. When the Lord sees you, He sees one who has been made blameless!
