Stand in Awe of Him

Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. Psalms 33:8

Our God is awesome and therefore everything about Him should cause everyone to constantly be in a state of awe. That was a lot of all-inclusive absolutes, but for good reason; it is all true. Imagine living in a world created by a Creator who loves you completely and would do (indeed has done) whatever it takes to rescue you, should you find yourself being held captive by a mortal enemy. Wouldn’t that be awesome? It is awesome!

That may seem a bit melodramatic, but again, that is the case for everyone. How could anyone take for granted the blessing of being forgiven of your transgressions and having your sin covered and not having your iniquities charged against you? How could that even be the case if you are guilty? The only way would be for someone to take your place — to give their life for yours. That is what Jesus did when He died on the cross; there was nothing of which He was guilty, instead He was taking the place of all mankind.

What an awesome truth, that you were a slave of sin, being destroyed by the destroyer and lost in this world when Jesus found you and adopted you into His family. How often do you think about what Jesus has done for you and God’s wonderful plan for your life? How often do you just stand in awe of the Lord’s love and His goodness?

All around you are reminders of God’s awesomeness. Any time you see a sunset you see a one-of-a-kind masterpiece created by the Master’s hand. Indeed, every moment of every evening’s sunset is special and unique. Not only are no two sunsets the same, there are subtle changes in each one every second, every minute. How often do you take at least a few seconds to acknowledge the wonderful work of God’s hands as He paints the sky like He’s never painted it before?

It is easy to take awesomeness for granted. When you become so familiar with it or it seems so commonplace, you can lose sight of it before you even realize what happened! Jesus could not do many miracles in His hometown of Nazareth. It wasn’t that He was incapable of doing miracles all of a sudden, it was because the people of Nazareth (a very small, rural community of about four hundred people during that time) did not have faith in Jesus. They took Him for granted because of their familiarity with Jesus and His earthly family.

Even today, people often try to reduce Jesus down to a manageable little god instead of walking in the fear of God and standing in awe of Him. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord and at the same time, filled with those who ignore that He even exists much less created all things (including themselves). God is in none of their thoughts.

Take time throughout the day to stand in awe of Him. Just being redeemed by Jesus Christ is enough awesomeness for a lifetime. But the Lord also provides plenty of other opportunities for you to be amazed if you don’t miss them. God’s goodness, however it is manifested in your life or the world around you is a chance for you to stand in awe of Him!
