“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Your heavenly Father loves to give good gifts to His children. God is a giver. In fact, everything you have in this life you have received. That is not to say that you cannot trace the natural origin of the things you have and hold. Some things you have are the result of your efforts; you worked for them. Other things may have been gifts or have been bequeathed to you. However they came into your possession, these things did not originate with anyone in this world — all things were created by God, so He is the source from which it all comes, no matter how it eventually ended up in your hands!
There are also non-tangible possessions that are sometimes even more valuable than the most precious of all you have in this world. You have been given a name and that is a part of who you are. You have people who love you and care about you and that you get to love in return. You have abilities and unique qualities that are also a part of who you are. All of these intangibles also find their source in God. You can trace your ancestry in the natural and account for much of the above but the bottom line is, it is God who gives life and created you as a special one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
So, everything you have, the tangible items as well as the intangibles, are a result of God’s goodness and are entrusted to you by your Creator. Then, we come to the things that usually come to mind when thinking of what God has given you. First and foremost is salvation. Breathing is one of those things we do without even thinking about it and it is easy to forget at times that we owe our very breath to the Lord, but salvation is another matter: once you are born-again you know that it is only by God’s grace and faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross that you have eternal life.
Now, consider something else we find in our verse today that God has given us: The Name. Not just any name but the one and only Name. Usually, when you hear someone name-dropping, they are trying to impress others by who they know or at least claim to know. It may be someone well known or powerful in business or political circles. Whatever the case, they are using the name of someone else to try and gain an advantage in their current situation or in the eyes of others.
You, on the other hand, as a child of the Most High God, have no need for name-dropping for the Father has given you the name of His Son, Jesus Christ. When you received salvation, you also received the name of the Savior, and at that name every knee has to bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord! There is no one on the earth or no one in the demonic realm that can stand against that name. Once, the seven sons of a Jewish High Priest tried name-dropping Jesus’ name against a demon and it was an epic fail!
The name of Jesus only works when you have received it first for salvation, for the Father has provided a way to be saved, but only one Way. There is salvation in the name of Jesus, and healing and deliverance and peace and so much more. In that Name and in no other!
