The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the peoples see His glory. Psalms 97:5-6
There are plenty of things that get in the way of life. Some are just minor bumps in the road and do nothing more than create a bit of bumpiness along the way. Other things may cause a delay or even a detour that makes what could have been a rather quick trip turn into a major trek.
God’s people experienced a variety of such things in their journey from Egypt to the Promise Land. The first thing that was obviously in their way was Pharaoh, representing Egypt itself. The hardest part about leaving Egypt (or we could say “coming out of the world”) is Egypt itself. The love of the world can quite often be a hindrance to leaving it behind.
When they finally got on their way, then they faced the obstacle of the Red Sea. Sometimes you face situations that seem to be impassable — you can’t get around it and there seems to be no way to get through it. You can be sure when the Lord has taken you to such a place that He will always make a way for you to get to the other side. It will usually be a way that seems impossible and indeed, without some heavenly help, it would be impossible. But the Lord comes through in a supernatural way. Also, that way is almost always going to be through the situation and not around it.
Once the Israelites make it into the wilderness, then we see them going around and around until you wonder if they will ever make it to their destination. Actually, except for Joshua and Caleb, an entire generation never do get past going around in circles. Yet, in spite of their lack of progress for forty years, it was not a matter of God not being able to get them where He wanted them to be. They brought all of their troubles on themselves.
Even in their wanderings the Lord never abandoned them; their shoes and clothes never wore out and they had plenty to eat (they probably came up with a lot of creative ways to serve manna!). Even when they were not faithful to God, He remained faithful.
You have and you will, face obstacles along your road of life. As with all who have ever lived and all who ever will, some days will be easier than others and some obstacles more manageable than others. The image that represents the most immovable of all obstacles is a mountain. Water can be parted or re-routed, but a mountain is immovable. That is to say, it is impossible for man to move a mountain, but with God, all things are possible!
Jesus taught about mountains being moved by faith and our verses today illustrate how helpless a mountain is before God: it melts like wax. When the Lord is leading you and has given you His word, it makes no difference what stands between you and God’s will. In the natural it may seem impossible and it may be impossible, but that just makes it all the more glorious when the Lord comes through for you and your mountains melt like wax!
