Heavenly Help

But to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool”? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation? Hebrews 1:13-14

Over two hundred fifty times we find references to angels in the Bible, beginning in Genesis and all throughout the Revelation with plenty of appearances in between. Many times, the Lord would convey a message from heaven to earth by way of an angel or angels. Even preparing for the birth of the Savior involved several angelic visitations.

When Jesus returns for His church, there will be the shout of an archangel. The separating of the sheep and goats, representing those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life and those whose names are not found there, will also involve angels. When the devil is bound for a thousand years in a bottomless pit, it will be one angel that puts him there!

Needless to say, the Lord keeps His angels busy and that is no different today. The angel of the Lord is all around those who fear God, always on the job, so to speak. And what is their job? What is the purpose of angels? Some have jobs in heaven. For instance, in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, Jesus reveals that little children’s angels see the face of God at all times. Other angels are around the throne of God glorifying Him constantly.

Then there are the angels who have jobs to do here on earth. You usually don’t see them, but they are here just the same. There are, of course, occasions when an angel will manifest in a way that is visible but usually, they remain unseen in the spirit realm. There may be times when you would like to call on some of these heavenly helpers, but they are not at your disposal or at your command — they serve at the pleasure of their Creator just as we are called to do.

Remember, your help comes from the Lord Who made heaven and earth (and everything in them, including you and including the angels!) so when you need something there is only one place to go; your heavenly Father. And, there is only one way to gain an audience with Him; through the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the go-between, the One who gives you access to the Father’s Throne of Grace.

What about the angels then, is there no way to utilize their “special skillset” when needed? There is only One who knows what you need and that is the Lord. He commands the angels and they are indeed His ministering spirits sent forth to help according to the Father’s will. As long as you stay in touch with the God Who commands the armies of Israel, you will always have all the help you need.

Maybe one day you will have a heavenly visitation that you can see, but whether you ever see any of these ministering spirits, you know they are there, sent by God. Angels are always in your midst for you are God’s child and He is always watching over you. Sometimes you may need more “help” than at other times, but whatever the case at any given moment, you can rest assured of God’s heavenly help!
