Psalms 92:1-2 It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night.
There are many milestones along the road of life, plenty of places that could easily serve as markers to commemorate accomplishments and achievements. Indeed, many of these are probably recorded in pictures and plaques and maybe a trophy or two along the way. Some events are life-changing and others come and go and, with the passage of time seem to be replaced with other, more current events. The plaques and trophies that once lined walls and shelves end up, along with so much of life, packed away in a box somewhere.
In fact, life does not consist of the things you have or of the things, in and of yourself that you have accomplished. You were created for a purpose, and only through seeking to fulfill the Father’s will do you find and experience true life. Many people spend their entire life not really living or, as the Lord puts it, they are dead even while they live!
To understand the life-markers that God created for your life, it is helpful to go back to the days of creation and see how He created things to be. The answer is found in these statements and others like them — “The evening and morning were the first day.” And “The evening and morning were the second day.” And on it goes for all six days of creation. The Lord not only created time but He also gave us divisions of time in days, months, seasons and years.
So how can this help you find the important markers along the way in your life? By breaking life down into God-defined chunks you can experience life in a more abundant and fulfilling way than ever before. If the only times in life that are worth recounting are the ones with trophies and plaques, does that make the other ninety nine and nine tenths of your life insignificant, unfruitful and not worth remembering? Quite the contrary!
As God’s child, every evening and every morning you have something worth remembering, something worth commemorating, and something worth declaring. When you begin a day, any day, you do not know what that day is going to bring forth. Oh, you may have an idea and you may have specific plans for that day, but it may or may not go the way you have planned for, after all, you are not the maker of your days; God is! One thing you can be absolutely sure of, however, is God’s lovingkindness toward you. Therefore, every day of your life should be marked by thanksgiving and praise even before you get the day started.
In the evening you have an opportunity to see the day as it was, looking back. Even though the night brings darkness, yet it shows the day that has passed in the light of hind-sight. Indeed, there will be some days that end up totally different than you ever imagined and certainly not according to plan; at least not your plan! Other days take such a surprising turn, you can look back and see the fingerprints of God all over it, doing much more for you in a day than you could have done for yourself in a lifetime. No matter how the day ends up, it is always a day to be commemorated, another day to declare God’s faithfulness!
