This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, Hebrews 6:19
There isn’t really anything you can be sure of in this life, for it is filled with uncertainties and everything past right now is beyond your vision or understanding and, to a large degree, your control. That can make for some very unsettling times for your soul and, left unchecked can even rise to the level of fear and anxiety. It seems as if, when you finally find a moment of calm all around that the waves of life begin once again to come crashing in on you!
With such a tumultuous backdrop to life, how is it possible to be sure of anything? You really only have to be sure of one thing and the rest will come together day by day, moment by moment. As long as you are sure of the hope you have in Jesus as your Lord and Savior then you have an anchor for your soul. That means you no longer go through life trusting in anything or anyone other than Him!
Life does not get any more predictable and people are still going to be people with all of their shortcomings, but you are no longer like a ship tossed about by those waves, no matter how high or numerous they are. Your soul is anchored in the Lord, His Word and His promises to you. The Word of God will never pass away and the Lord is always the same; He never changes.
Every morning, when you face another day you have a choice. If you allow your life to be tossed about by the events of the day, you may have some good days and some not so good days and some days that make you wonder why you even got out of bed in the first place! If, however you choose to make the Lord the anchor for your soul, you can have a good day every day. Your soul will be at peace knowing that your hope is in God Almighty, the One who created you along with the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. This is your Father’s world and there is nothing that is too difficult for Him, if you are willing to let go of it and let Him be the Lord.
It can be a challenge to let go and let the Lord help you. You may be used to doing your own worrying about things and allowing the circumstances of the moment to determine the condition of your emotional self! But true peace is not something this life can give you. There may be moments that are more peaceful than others, but it is only temporary at best and is nothing more than a façade. Only Jesus, the Prince of Peace can give you rest for your soul and establish you so firmly in this life that you are always on top of the waves!
You can have your soul anchored in Him every day, come what may. You will never know all there is to know about your future in this life but it is enough to know God, who holds your future in His hands and knew all about every day of your life even when you were formed. He knows there will be some days that require a lot more grace than usual just to make it through and He has you covered. He knows the waves will sometimes seem to be overwhelming, but God is faithful, to be sure, and your anchor will always hold in Him!
