Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth, 1 Chronicles 16:12
Sometimes it is a challenge to believe. As a believer, that’s not something that gets mentioned very often, but it is true for most Christians somewhere along the way of this journey called life! Once, when a distraught father was asked by Jesus if he believed, he confessed that he did believe but then asked Jesus to help his unbelief. Exactly. It is not that you do not believe in the Lord and His Word, it’s just that sometimes you need a little heavenly help to believe at that moment.
Peter had one of those moments (actually he had plenty of those moments) when he was in a boat with the other disciples waiting for Jesus to join them. What neither he nor they knew at the time was exactly how Jesus was going to accomplish this feat since they were now in the middle of a large body of water. They obviously had not thought it through since, when Jesus arrives, they suppose Him to be a ghost!
Once they realize it is Jesus walking on the water to join them, Peter has a great idea — walk on the water to Jesus. Wow, what faith, right? To believe God beyond what is normally possible and, when Jesus calls, get out of the boat with no known or visible means of support. This is taking the concept of walking by faith to a new level. As is often the case, the walk of faith is easier to begin than it is to complete!
Alas, it was not long before Peter began to see and hear everything but Jesus; the wind and the waves and a little voice in his head — the voice of doubt. Then his faith began to waver and he needed some help, so he called upon the Lord for help and immediately Jesus helped him. But, what can you do today if you do not have Jesus right there with you physically to help when the wind is contrary and the waves seem to be formidable?
You always have Jesus with you, even if you can’t see Him for, He will never leave you or forsake you. More than that, you know that He is able to help you, for He is the same yesterday, today and forever. That’s where our verse for today comes in. Even though you cannot see what lies ahead, you have a clear vision of what God has done in the past.
A little wind and waves are nothing for the God who parted the Red Sea for His children and allowed them to pass on dry ground and then drowned the strongest army in the world as they tried that same route! In the Word of God, there are plenty of examples from the past to energize your faith for the future, and for the present storm you may be in the midst of. Remember His marvelous works and cry out to Him for help. He is with you, even in the storm.
There will be times of testing in this life, but you are never without hope or help; just remember what God has done before for His people, and what He has done for you. Chances are, you have had times in your walk with the Lord when there seemed to be no way forward, and then God made a way where there was no way. Remember!
