Enriched in Everything

I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge. 1 Corinthians 1:4-5

To be enriched, as the word is used here, means literally to make wealthy or rich. Jesus Christ made you rich in everything when you received the grace of God that brought you salvation and you became His child. In this world it is common to measure wealth based on one thing only — money. If you have a certain amount of money you are referred to as wealthy. But is a person’s life enriched just because they are rich by that standard?

There are plenty of examples throughout history and throughout the world today of those who have great wealth and yet are bankrupt, so to speak, when it comes to the things that matter in eternity. What good will all the wealth in the world do them when it comes time to stand before their Maker and give an account of their life (and all of that wealth!)? It is certainly not a coincidence that the streets in the Heavenly City are paved with gold; the very thing that people strive for in this life only to leave this world empty-handed.

Indeed, there are many things that enrich your life that have nothing to do with money and that cannot be bought at any price. When it comes time to count your blessings, it is time to look around at all of the good things the Lord has filled your life with. That does not mean there are no challenges for, as we see in God’s creation, even the most beautiful rose includes some thorns.

Sure, money is needed in this life and the Lord gives you the ability to get wealth. You do not have to look very far in God’s Word to see heroes of the faith who were financially enriched. But do not allow your view of heaven-sent enrichment to be limited to the world’s definition of wealth. Through Jesus Christ you are enriched in everything.

Every part of your life is blessed beyond measure because God says it is. Some days the sun is shining and other days it’s nowhere to be found. Some days you get to fully enjoy the roses with their beauty and fragrance filling the atmosphere with joy and hope. Other times, it seems like a struggle to get past the thorns to even get a glimpse of the beauty that lies just beyond.

But in spite of the pain and struggles (and maybe even a failure or two), through it all, God is good and His grace toward you is always sufficient to bring you through. More than just getting by or getting what you deserve, the Lord has chosen to make your life rich in every way. You have plenty of counting to do when it comes to counting your blessings. Even those blessings sometimes are in disguise, but as time goes by you see the good work that the Lord had begun in you, and where He brought you to.

When you find yourself searching for blessings to count because of what you don’t have, remember that you are rich in everything that you do have, along with the promises of what you will have, both in this life and in eternity. By Jesus you are enriched in everything!
