With God Nothing Will be Impossible

“For with God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37

The first chapter of Luke is filled with impossibilities, or so it seems! As it turns out, they were only impossibilities as far as man is concerned. There are, after all, many things beyond the ability of mere humans. There are also natural laws established by God that govern His creation. But, being Lord of All Creation, He can override any of those abilities or laws any time He chooses!

And so, we find ourselves witnessing a few cases of divine intervention as the book of Luke unfolds. First, there is Zacharias and his wife, Elizabeth. They both loved God and served Him faithfully. But there was one thing that had eluded them in life — they were not able to have children, for Elizabeth was barren. By the time we meet them it is too late, for they are past the age of having children. In the natural, it would be impossible for them to have a child at their age and Zacharias said as much to Gabriel, the angel who visited him to give him the news that they would have a son.

Gabriel is about to be sent on another mission. This time, to a young girl named Mary. Once again, he is announcing an upcoming impossibility and once again a similar response from the recipient; “How can this be?” That would seem to be the question whenever God proclaims that He will do something that is impossible. It is important to note that these impossibilities had not yet come to pass; they had only been proclaimed by the Lord through His angel Gabriel. When God says it, that settles it!

Of course, these were not the first impossibilities to be faced by God’s children nor the last; the Bible is literally filled with examples from beginning to end. When there is nowhere to turn but to the Lord and He provides a supernatural solution to an impossible situation, He gets the glory.

This is the lesson to be learned from our verse today — with God nothing will be impossible. Just because it never has been does not mean that it never can be. When you face a situation in life that seems impossible because it’s always been the way it is, it can be a challenge to believe that things could ever change. You may even find yourself at times saying (or at least thinking) “How can this be?”

The disciples found themselves in the middle of a storm so severe that they knew there was no way to survive it. But Jesus had sent them on that boat ride, so they were right where they were supposed to be. Even doing God’s will, they found themselves in an impossible situation, yet Jesus assured them they had nothing to fear. A good question, especially for experienced fishermen such as they were would have been, “How can this be?”

Everything God has promised you will come to you in its own time, as the angel Gabriel proclaimed to Zacharias. The more impossible it seems, the more glory for the Lord! The Lord is never late and He always keeps His word. Walk by faith and say what God says about your situation, no matter how impossible for, with God nothing will be impossible!
