It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night, Psalms 92:1-2
Each new day brings its own set of unknowns. As you look forward to the hours and minutes ahead, there is not much to see, since you can only see what you can see and that is limited to the here and now. When night comes, you can look back and recount the events that made up that day, but many times you will still be left with many unknowns — “why this” or “why not that”. Indeed, some days leave you with more questions than answers.
It is important to remember that God’s lovingkindness and faithfulness toward you are not measured by the events of today, or any day for that matter. As the Lord declared to Moses at the burning bush when asked about His name, God said, “I AM WHO I AM”. The Lord is forever the same, His nature never changes and it certainly does not change with the weather! God is the same God in the storm, wind and rain as He is in the sunshine.
With all of the variables in life, what is the key to keeping things on an even keel? The storms of life can (and sooner or later will) blow you around a bit, but there are constants in the life of a believer that are able to keep your life shipshape, as it were. Our verses today reveal how you can literally go through life singing praises to God with a thankful heart. Yes, that will certainly involve some singing in the rain!
First, consider your declaration for the morning; before you even begin your day and even before you check the weather, declare the lovingkindness of the Lord your God. No matter how the day unfolds or what circumstances you face, no matter what choices others make or what anyone says or does, God is still the same. His love for you is steadfast and new every morning. He gives you a chance to put the past behind you and face this day with a clean slate, with nothing standing between you and the Lord.
Declare this day to be blessed because you are blessed and because the Lord made you and this day. God loves you, cares for you and is watching over you. Declare God’s lovingkindness over the day and press on in faith. No matter what you face, hold on to your declaration of faith — don’t let the enemy steal your song of praise.
Then, at the end of the day, you have a declaration of faith as you look back over the day. There are very likely some things that did not go exactly the way you thought they would and you may have some questions for the Lord, but remember your declaration for the night; “God is faithful”. As you declare God’s faithfulness every night, it reminds you that He is in control and He is working everything out and causing things to fall into place that you cannot even see or imagine.
The Lord is eternal and only created time for our sakes. By taking life one day at a time, you can keep your song of praise throughout the day, declaring God’s lovingkindness and even have a song in the night, declaring His faithfulness. Let these be your daily declarations!
