The children of Israel, were constantly in need of deliverance, time and time again they found themselves in a mess and would cry out to God. It’s kind of like a herd of sheep, wandering off and getting caught in a thicket or about to become lamb chops for a predator and then you hear them crying out for the shepherd to come and rescue them. He reaches into the thicket with his staff and pulls his sheep to safety or eliminates the threat of the predator. Does the sheep learn its lesson? Well, maybe, but there will probably be other self destructive moments in that sheep’s life before it has all been said and done!
Children can be like that too; getting themselves into a situation that calls for parental deliverance, like teetering on the edge of a counter that they found a way to climb up on. Like the sheep, and like us, it’s easy to get into something that we can’t get out of on our own. And then, there are the destructions that are all around us just because we are in a fallen world. You could find yourself in need of deliverance and it is through no fault of your own — but neither is it God’s fault.
The Lord’s name is to be praised. In the good times as well as the hard times, He is our deliverer, not the reason we need delivering. He delivers us from our destructions, the ones we bring on ourselves by wandering into that thicket as well as the ones we face every day because of the world we live in. Either way, we need His daily divine deliverance!
