If You Have Anything Against Anyone

In the end, we find that not forgiving accomplishes nothing good and hurts us more than it does the one from whom we are withholding forgiveness. And what if the one you have something against does not deserve your forgiveness? Indeed, there is a good chance that they do not deserve it! But then, on the other hand, when you stand praying, do you deserve God’s attention and His help? None of us do, for we have all let the Lord down at one time or another. So, as you stand praying and asking God to hear your prayer and answer your petitions, and your mind keeps wandering toward someone that you have something against or some situation that you haven’t let go of, then the Lord is telling you right here today what you are to do. Forgive.

As soon as you face the situation and acknowledge your need to forgive, the way into God’s presence and His glorious Throne of Grace is opened to you. To help see what this looks like, just consider our Lord Jesus Christ. He was so mistreated literally by everyone He loved and who should have loved Him, even standing before a crowd of those to whom He had plainly poured out His heart, only to hear them crying out with a loud voice, “crucify Him, crucify Him!” And crucify Him they did. But, as He is hanging on that cross, where He would eventually die of a broken heart, He asked the Heavenly Father to forgive them.

So, the next time you are interrupted in your prayer time, if it is a divine detour, fulfill God’s plan for that moment. But, if it is something against someone, you know what to do. Forgive!
