There are things that we just do not feel we qualify for or that we ever could qualify for. For most of us, one of those things would be sainthood! Now, when you think of a saint, maybe what comes to mind is a painting or statue of someone who once lived but has died. They may even be depicted with a halo of sorts around their head. When you look at that image, it may seem as if you can almost hear angels singing! But, of course, that is not the Biblical definition of a saint. The Bible uses the word saint to describe those who have been born again through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, both living and dead.
Still, the word seems to suggest perfection and that would be out of reach for, well, for everyone. Indeed, for you to approach the throne of a perfect, holy God would require perfection and holiness, so how could you even come close to being qualified? We find the answers in our verse today.
You are qualified because your Heavenly Father has qualified you! The Lord remembers that you are just dust; without His help, you have no chance of ever being called a saint. But, it’s not just you, it’s everyone who is living or has ever lived. All have missed the mark; none have ever qualified in and of themselves.
You are qualified to be a partaker of all of God’s promises along with all of the other saints because Jesus Christ became the perfect sacrifice in your place. Anything in your past that has been repented of before the Lord is forgiven and forgotten as far as the Lord is concerned. If you are allowing things from the past to hinder your future, it’s time to let go of those things and take firm hold of the promises of God.
Finally, what are you saying about you? What confession are you making about who you are as a child of God? When you see yourself as less than God says you are and you say things about yourself that do not align with God’s Word, you are not bringing glory to God. You are qualified to be a partaker of God’s goodness because of God’s goodness. Say so!
