People change. Oh, the physical changes are evident from the very beginning. When you first see a new born baby you know they will never be at that stage, that season of life again. Just the passing of days or weeks will bring about such change that it will be obvious the child is growing up. But, change isn’t just for children; everyone changes. It is the way of things in this life. All of God’s creation is changing and circumstances in this world change as well. All around us there is constant change.
Times change, that is to say, the way people conduct themselves and live their lives is always changing. There are always some things from the past being rediscovered by the current generation with the older ones declaring, “That’s not new; we had that back in our day”. Things changing, people learning lessons that have already been learned and then forgotten, history, once again being repeated, all of these are signs of the changing times.
But, some things never change. As we see in our verse, not only is the world God created changing but it is also passing away. Just like the clock is counting down on everything in the world, so it is for the world itself! One day there will be new heavens and a new earth. Yet, with all of the change in our lives, the Word of God never changes.
God and His Word are the constants in your life to center you and steady you in the midst of all of the change around you. Each day, God’s love for you and His mercy toward you remain the same. You can check the weather to see how it will be (subject to change without notice!) but you need not wonder about the Lord — some things never change!
