You were not created to be a clone of anyone else and your worth is not determined by whether or not someone is pleased with you or you measure up to some standard of accomplishment they have determined is the threshold whereby you may obtain their approval! Many people spend their whole life trying to earn the approval of man and end up frustrated and unfulfilled when it has all been said and done.
Having been denied the love and acceptance you should have received from those whose place it was to give it to you, it would be easy to think of yourself as unworthy of acceptance, especially the acceptance of a holy, perfect God. After all, haven’t you been told plenty of times how unworthy you are? And yet, that’s not what God says about you.
You may have only been entrusted with a few things — be faithful with those few things. Do not think that in order to be pleasing to God; you have to do great things for Him. The Lord is not looking at what you do for Him, He is looking at your faithfulness with what He has entrusted to you.
Just be faithful right where you are with what you have in front of you, that’s all He is looking for. Do well what the Lord has for you to do and it will be well done! Then, before you know it, you will no longer need to be constantly trying to please others or living up to others’ expectations of what your life should look like. In the process, you will even find forgiveness for those who withheld their acceptance because the approval and acceptance of your Creator is all you need. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
