It Is Well

Elisha prophesied over a woman that she would have a son within a year’s time, and she did. The child grew and one day, he went out to the field to let his father know he wasn’t feeling well. By mid day, sitting on his mother’s knee, the child died and she takes him upstairs and lays him on Elisha’s bed and goes as fast as she can to find Elisha. She tells Elisha’s servant, when asked how things are going with she and her family that, “It is well.”. Now, with the knowledge of her situation, her response takes on new meaning. Just hearing her encounter with Elisha’s servant, you would think that everything is going just great. Then, we find out that her response can be based on nothing but faith for she has no hope in the natural that “It is well.” Her confession is not based on her condition!

Finally, she returns to her house with Elisha, determined not to go back without him. Elisha’s servant runs on ahead and reports back that there is still no sign of life. When Elisha gets there, it’s time for her condition to come in line with her confession! Her son is raised from the dead by the power of God through Elisha.

No matter how things look in your life in the natural, you have the promises and provisions of your loving Father to hold on to and to confess over your life and over your family. Take God at His word and claim the promises of God in your life. You may not see anything happening to indicate that it is working but it’s not about what you can see, it’s about what God has said.

The Lord is at work even when you can’t see what He is doing or understand why He is doing this or not doing that. It seems that, as the Word of God says, God’s ways are not our ways and so, what we expect the Lord to do, He does not do. Best to expect the unexpected when it comes to the Lord and His provision. There certainly would have been easier, less painful ways for this couple to have their child restored to health, but, among other reasons known only to the Lord, we know one thing it accomplished and is still accomplishing even for us today; the importance of maintaining a good confession. We see plenty of examples throughout the Word of God, but who could ever forget, “It is well.”
