Sometimes, as Jesus was ministering and a large crowd would gather to hear Him, it would begin to get late and they would need food but alas, most of them brought no food with them. A couple of times Jesus multiplied the food that was there and fed the multitude with a few loaves and fishes. But we can sometimes find ourselves with an appetite and no food anywhere to be found, or thirsty with nothing to drink. Even though we need these things they are not always with us or even close at hand. Still, one way or another, the Lord always provides everything we need!
What about in our journey through this life, if we look at, not the tangible things we need like food and clothing and such, but rather the intangible things we need every day, all day long, what would that look like? Our verse gives us the big three; three things that are always a part of every believer’s life, even if we sometimes forget and do not avail ourselves of this constant provision of the Lord. God intends that these three would be your constant companion — faith, hope and love.
Every day should be filled with faith, taking God at His word and walking by what He says and not by what you see or feel or what other people think; just simply living and walking by faith. Sometimes everything may be going so well you might forget that you need faith, but no matter what the weather, you always need faith. Hope should also be a source of strength and encouragement and joy every day as we look beyond what we can currently see to the reality of what God has promised is in our future. That future could be the next ten minutes or the next ten years, but hope keeps you pressing on knowing that it will come to you in God’s time! And the greatest of all — love, living each day wrapped in the loving arms of your Father God. These three abide with you forever. Faith, hope, love.
