Let God be God

It can seem fulfilling in a way to be so busy you can’t even catch your breath and to be so loaded down with care you feel like you are carrying a thousand-pound weight on your shoulders. But it is not God’s will for you to go through life like that. Psalm 46 reminds us that God is our strength and He is always with us so there is no need to fear. Then the Psalmist paints a picture of catastrophic events taking place on the earth like the mountains shaking and being carried away into the sea. Next, he turns his attention to events in the world as he speaks of nations raging. In other words, he depicts a scenario of a world that is in complete turmoil!

How could you (or any of us) be equipped to carry that kind of a load, to keep up that kind of a juggling act? All that will result is that you will wear yourself out and the world will still be in a mess. But, there is an answer for a world like that; a world like the one we live in today. Each of us has our part, our mission, our calling in this world as soldiers in the Lord’s army and as Ambassadors for Christ. But, God is not glorified by what you can do — He is glorified by what He does. Whether it is through you or someone else or He just does it, the key is that God gets all of the glory; that He is exalted among all nations!

No matter how much you have on your plate that needs to get done, it is vital to take time to be still. In the natural that does not make sense; with so much that needs doing in God’s Kingdom, how can it help to be still. Remember, in God’s Kingdom, the way up is down: humble yourself under His mighty hand and He will lift you up. Be still and let God be God!
