If the Lord is your helper and you know it, then why would there ever be a time when you would need His help in the first place? You already know that God can do anything and He is always ready willing and able to help you so, why isn’t everything just automatically handled ahead of time? After all, if God is able to help you and He already knows everything even before it happens, why doesn’t He just keep you from ever having any trouble? It seems like, having asked and answered the one question, “Where does my help come from?” brings you to all of these other questions so, let’s get to the bottom of the matter.
We were all born under the curse of the law of sin and death, but by faith in the finished work of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, we are delivered out from under that curse. But, we are still in this world that has not yet been delivered, even though we are no longer a part of it. The world is still under that same curse and even groans waiting for its deliverance (Which will come at the end of days!) So, until there are new heavens and a new earth, here we are in a world full of sin and evil.
That means, among other things, that you need God’s help every day. Every minute of every day. It is easy to forget you need Him when everything is going along just fine. But, to illustrate this Biblical truth, consider a small child — how dependent they are on others for what they cannot do for themselves. Then, as that child grows and is able to do more on their own, they seemingly need others less and less. Eventually, as a young man or woman in the prime of their life, they could even feel as if they are invincible with no need for help from anyone. Toward the end of their life, though, as they can do less and less for themselves once again, they finally realize how much they really do need help.
Even if you find yourself in a place where you do not feel you can take another step or put one foot in front of another, there is something you can do. What about those times when your hands are hanging down and you can’t even lift up your head much less your hands.? You need help, you need God’s help. Even if you can’t move anything else, you can always set your eyes on the Lord; you can lift up your eyes to Him. He is always there to help!
