In The Shelter of Your Wings

It is significant that the first Biblical mention of cherubim is in Genesis 3:24 when they are stationed at the east of the Garden of Eden, along with a constantly turning flaming sword, to guard the way to the Tree of Life. Because of sin, man was separated from God. But even then, the Lord spoke of a time when the grace and mercy of God would once again provide a Way for man to have fellowship with God — but not without the shedding of blood. This was fulfilled when Jesus died on the cross for all mankind.

So, what do we find in the tabernacle of God? A place of refuge, a place of peace and joy. When you enter into His presence, you leave everything of this world outside. Here you can lay down your burdens and be set free by the God who made you! King David knew the joy of God’s presence. He surely found himself in need of such a refuge many times throughout his life. Besides battling (and defeating) a giant as a lad, he would face many adversaries over the course of his life.

But, even greater than the shelter of the tabernacle of God is the shelter of His wings. Just as those two golden cherubim stretched out their wings to cover the Mercy Seat in Moses’ tabernacle, so today, the Lord has you covered — if you will come to Him.

No one is perfect, we can’t even keep the Ten Commandments perfectly every day of our life. That’s why those two tablets of stone were covered in the Ark of the Covenant with the Mercy Seat and why the cherubim’s wings covered the one place where atonement was made for sin – the Mercy Seat.

Come into God’s tabernacle and lay down your burdens, no matter what they are. And bring your imperfections to His Mercy Seat where the blood of Jesus has paid the price for the forgiveness of your sins. Put your trust in the finished work of Jesus on the cross for you, put your trust in His mercy and trust in the shelter of His wings!
