If you call upon the name of the Lord in truth, in accordance with the Word of God which is the only source of truth, He is near to you. By the truth of God’s Word, we know what it takes to have access into His presence. God’s nearness to you is not based on your perfection but rather on the perfect sacrifice of the One who died for you and is always interceding with the Father on your behalf; Jesus Christ.
There may be times when you do not feel the nearness of the Lord. Indeed, it may be that you have allowed things (or even people) to crowd out His presence. You could have gotten so busy with life that, without even realizing it, you are not calling upon the name of the Lord as you once did, or at least you are not calling upon Him with the same zeal as you had in times past. Perhaps calling upon the Lord has become more of a routine and a ritual rather than a response to the revelation of His wonderful truth! The good news (God always has good news for the one who is seeking Him!) is that all of these situations can be easily remedied.
For the Lord to be near to you, there has to be room in your life for Him. Like the woman who pressed in to just touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, you have to be close enough to touch the Lord if you expect Him to be near to you when you call upon Him. Seek the Lord and draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. If your life is so cluttered up with non-God things that you literally have no room for Him to be near, well then, it’s time to do a little house cleaning, as it were!
Make room for the Lord, He wants to be near you. God created man to have fellowship with Him. It was never His intention that we would be far from Him or separated from Him; that is man’s doing, not God’s. Sin entered the world through Adam and death through sin. But, praise God, through Jesus Christ, we once again have access into His presence. And along with His presence, we have many great and precious promises given to us through Jesus. One thing you can be sure of: when you call upon the Lord in truth, He is near!
