You may not feel like you are that special in God’s Kingdom or that you can really make a difference in situations or in people’s lives. Perhaps you sometimes even wonder if it makes any difference if you pray about things or not. Sometimes you hear about a need or you know of needs among your family and friends and feel powerless to help them; but you can always help — through prayer. It is easy to dismiss prayer as a means of helping, especially when so many just use the phrase as a robotic response, “I will pray for you.”
When someone asks you to pray for them or for a situation, or when you tell someone you will pray for them, make it a point to pray for that need as soon as possible so that you do not forget or get distracted and never get “around to it”. The Apostle Paul said that the Christians from Corinth and the surrounding area helped him when he faced a life or death situation by praying for him. Because of their answered prayers, Paul said he received the gift of deliverance from the Lord.
Sometimes you want to help but you feel so helpless. Remember, you are a child of God and you have the same power and authority in prayer that any other believer has, even if they are world famous and you are known only to a few. As long as God knows your name and you know Jesus, you can touch heaven with your prayers. Paul knew this truth and so he continually asked the believers to pray. He knew that, whatever the need, prayer helps!
