Troubleshooting Life

What about troubleshooting life, how does that work? You might think at first that if you are always good then only good things will come your way and if you are bad, well then, bad things will be your lot in life. Except that, there are plenty of Scriptures that make it plain that sometimes bad things happen to good people and sometimes it seems as if the wicked prosper. So, troubleshooting life is going to be a bit deeper than that.

Once, Jesus got into a boat and His disciples followed Him. If there is one thing that should assure smooth sailing through life, you could suppose that it would be following Jesus, right? Well, here they go on their boat ride with Jesus and suddenly there is a storm so severe that the waves are covering the boat. That shouldn’t be a problem since they have Jesus with them, as soon as He realizes what is happening, He will take care of everything. The only thing is — Jesus is asleep! He could have taken a nap anytime and anywhere, but He is teaching us a lesson here. They couldn’t see beyond the storm, so they thought they were perishing. They were actually in the perfect place for a miracle.

In troubleshooting life, the first thing is to acknowledge that God is God and He alone is Lord. Humble yourself before Him and, if the Holy Spirit convicts you of something that needs to be straightened out with the Lord then get it done. You don’t want your boat sinking because it has holes in it — plug up those holes.

Then, as you go on with the troubleshooting process, you may find that some of the storms in your life are not to destroy you but rather to teach you to trust in the Lord. Some of the grit in your life (probably from others who “rub you the wrong way”) may be serving to smooth out some things in you. That snipping sound you hear may not be you getting cut to pieces but rather the work of the Divine Pruner cutting away the old to allow for new growth in your life. The fire you are going through may not be to destroy you but rather to purify your faith. Troubleshooting life involves trusting in God’s loving plan for you!
