So, what is the key to contentment in this life? To remember that life does not consist of the things you have that are of this world, for this world is passing away and everything in it. The Lord wants to bless you abundantly, and that sometimes includes “things”, but you can never have enough “things” to be content. Contentment is not the result of having enough things to finally be satisfied, it is the realization and complete assurance that there is nothing in this world that could ever satisfy your soul. The key to contentment is to look to Jesus to complete you; to fill your life with good things — faith, hope and love.
The most valuable possessions you have cannot be bought with money. You cannot buy God’s love. You cannot buy the love of others or others to love. You cannot buy peace or joy. These all require a touch of the Master’s hand, because they are all in His hands. Look to the Lord for contentment. If ever you feel you are becoming a bit discontent with your current situation, just consider what you brought into the world and what you will take out of it.
Believe a big God to do big things in your life and that includes providing for your physical needs over and above anything you could think or ask, but keep in mind that physical things and physical wealth can only meet physical needs; they can never satisfy your soul. The true riches that the Lord has entrusted to you are not of this world and therefore, you can “take them with you”. These are the eternal gifts we have been given by our Creator; faith, hope and love. You didn’t bring these into the world either, but you have received them as gifts! As long as you have these three, you have everything you need. That’s why you can live each day with peace and joy; you have faith in God, your hope is in His promises, and you have His perfect love. In other words, you have the key to contentment!
