If hiding from God was no more than a game of hide and seek, you could never win, because God is everywhere and He knows and sees all things! But, hiding from the Lord is no game. What would cause someone, as Adam did, to try and hide from God? Adam said the reason he hid from God was that he was afraid of Him. What made Adam, who had walked with God each day and talked with Him and experienced His awesome love and abundant provision first hand, suddenly be afraid of Him? What changed between them that brought on this abrupt change in their relationship?
To keep things in perspective, it helps to remember this: if you feel your relationship with the Lord has changed, it is not because God has changed, for He never changes. And, if it seems like the Lord is not as near to you as He once was, it’s not because He is hiding from you, but it could be because you are hiding from Him. Maybe not to the extent that Adam was trying to hide from the Lord, but possibly that you have something in your life that you are holding on to even though you know in your heart you need to give it over to the Lord.
The other thing that could send you into hiding is, like Adam, to know you have disobeyed the Lord. The good news for us today is that we have no reason to hide from Him if we are willing to humble ourselves before the Lord and confess anything that needs to be forgiven. God is faithful and just to forgive us. The reason it is just to forgive us even though we don’t deserve it, is because Jesus paid the full price for our forgiveness. So, if you are hiding from the Lord, come on out. After all, you can run but you can’t hide — God is everywhere!
