Drive Away the Vultures

Once, while living in the land of Canaan, there was a huge battle that involved four kings against five kings — nine different kingdoms at war. The five kings prove to be no match against the four kings and in the end, Abram’s nephew, Lot and his goods are taken captive by these four kings. Abram hears about it, takes three hundred eighteen men from his household and goes and gets his nephew back. On the surface it looked like a few hundred men against four kingdoms, but it was actually the blessing of God on Abram that made the difference. What five kings could not do, Abram and his household did. When you are blessed of God, there are not enough kingdoms in this world to stand in the way of His will in your life, or to keep you from inheriting the blessings He has promised you!

Abram received the specific promise from God of an heir that would come from him naturally, even though both he and his wife were well past the child bearing years and besides, his wife was barren. Nevertheless, Abram believed God and the Lord commands him to seal the covenant with a sacrifice — a heifer, a she-goat, a ram, a turtledove and a pigeon.

The offering is prepared, the animals are slain and everything is in order. God has made such wonderful promises and commitments to Abram, it is more than he could have thought or asked. But, guess what happens before the sealing ceremony can even be completed? The vultures come and try to destroy what God is preparing to do before it even gets off the ground.

That’s the way it is with everything good God is doing in your life; the vultures will try to come in and destroy it before you even get through hearing about what God has in store. It could be negative thoughts that come into your head accusing you of things already under the blood of Jesus. Or, it could be the voice of others who, either not having faith themselves or being deceived by the evil one, speak words that are contrary to what God has said to you. Hold on to the promises of God, no matter how many vultures come around trying to take away your blessing, you keep driving them away. You have God’s word and His blessing!
