Shall We Not Accept Adversity?

God does not temp you with evil. In fact, a portion of Jesus’ model prayer teaches us to pray that our heavenly Father would deliver us from the evil one. We would certainly rather be spared from all adversity if that would be possible, but since we live in a world that is full of evil and most of the people on the earth are on a wide road that leads to destruction, some adversity in this life is inevitable.

The fact that you face adversity is not an indication that the Lord has forsaken you or that you have committed some sin that has brought adversity into your life. It could be that you, like Job, are just simply being attacked by the evil one. God sees your heart and He sees you are righteous before Him because of Jesus’ sacrifice for your sin. You stand before God clean and washed whiter than snow. And then the accuser of the brethren, that evil one, the devil, comes along trying to steal, kill and destroy, yet you have the promises of God’s Word that the Lord will deliver you.

To accept adversity does not mean that you expect it or think that you deserve it because of your imperfections, it means that you can put adversity in perspective because of the world in which you live, and even in the midst of adversity, you can still bow down and worship God for who He is; you can proclaim His goodness in adversity just as fully and confidently as in the easy times. Your faith and trust in the goodness of the Lord is measured not so much by your response to the good times but rather in how you accept adversity!
