Do not let all of the voices of the world intimidate you into thinking you have to think like the world or talk like the world or be like the world to be wise. Actually, the opposite is true; those who seek the approval of the world will, in the end, find that it comes at a high cost. Not only do you not gain anything by having the world’s approval (and maybe even its acceptance and possibly even, to some degree, its respect) you lose something priceless. You trade the glory of God for the glory of man.
Abraham’s nephew, Lot found himself in such a place. He was sitting at the gate of the city of Sodom indicating a place of authority in the sin-filled city. No doubt, he was praised throughout the city for being so progressive and tolerant, but the praise and acceptance of man came at a high price; it almost cost him his life and it did cost him his wife’s life and his daughters’ futures. A high price indeed to be wise in the world’s eyes.
God has something infinitely better for you as His child. It is not obvious to the world or even to your natural senses. In fact, it is hidden from the world. God’s plan and His ways are a mystery to the world. You will be mocked and ridiculed at times when you follow this wisdom because it does not make any sense to the natural man.
It’s nothing new, it’s as old as time itself. It’s God’s plan for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. It’s the blessing of obedience to every word of God. It’s things that cannot be seen and cannot be bought like faith, hope and love. It’s the real thing — the wisdom of God!
