In Season and Out of Season

Once, Jesus was waiting by a well as the disciples went to get some food. It’s easy to recognize the season for eating. After all, if you forget it is time to eat, your stomach will remind you! Anyway, as the disciples went to get food, Jesus had a chance to proclaim divine truth to a woman who was from Samaria. Normally, you would not expect Him to be speaking to her, but the basic human need for water presented the opportunity for Jesus to declare to her the way of salvation; to drink of the Living Water and never thirst again. God took an inopportune time and turned it into an opportunity.

Another time, Jesus was teaching and carrying out His ministry when, all of a sudden, people began to bring little children to Him so that He could lay hands on them and bless them. On the surface, you may look at those children as being an interruption to the things He had to do that day and that was the way the disciples saw it. In fact, they were telling the people not to bother the Master with children. But, Jesus taught us a very important lesson; children are not an interruption or a bother; children are an opportunity. You get to proclaim divine truth to a young soul that is soaking it all in even if it seems they are not “getting it”. It may not be the season for the truth to bear fruit in their life but it is always the season for planting the seeds of truth in their heart!

If you look at your daily life as seasonal; there is a time for this and a time for that, then you are going to find that God is above seasons and proclaiming divine truth is always in season. It could be a large crowd that gets to hear the truth or, probably just a person here and another there that you get to share some truth with. It could be what seems like an ordinary moment in taking care of a child that God turns into a season for proclaiming divine truth and planting seeds that will last for all eternity.

You have been entrusted with the truth of God’s Word and you have been given the task of proclaiming that truth. The key is not to try and figure out the right time to proclaim the truth of God’s Word, you just be ready: In season and out of season!
