The Lord did not save you because He had to or even because He needed to; He saved you because He chose to, because He created you to be in fellowship with Him and because He loves you. There is nothing you could have done to earn or deserve God’s love and in fact, you can only love Him because He first loved you!
And now, here you are, a part of God’s chosen generation, a member of His royal priesthood (for He has made you a king and priest unto God), you are a citizen of His holy nation, you are His own, you are special to the Lord. When you consider these truths it immediately becomes obvious that you did not just happen into God’s presence by chance. No, God called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. He did that on purpose and he did that for a particular purpose.
If all the Lord wanted was for you to be with Him, why didn’t He just call you all the way home to your eternal dwelling — in heaven? Why, instead has He called you to be a part of His family on earth? Heaven is your blessed hope, where you will forever be with the Lord and there will be no sorrow or pain or tears or loss. There won’t even be any night for God’s glory will provide perpetual light; no more dark nights of the soul. If God’s love for you is so deep and complete, it might seem as if He would spare you all of the trials of this life and let you get straight to that home in heaven.
But, the Lord does have a purpose for you being here. He did save you on purpose and for a purpose. You are called to be a witness for the Lord, to proclaim the praises of the One who loved you and sought you out and found you and picked you up and rescued you from the hand of the destroyer. The One who loved you even before you knew Him and who died in your place even when you were dead in sin. The One who took all of your sin upon Himself to the cross so that you could be made alive.
As long as you are here, it is for a divine purpose. God has done great things in your life and on behalf of those you know and love. Right now, there are others around you that need to hear this good news; people that need hope, people that need Jesus. Proclaim His praises!
