Where is Your Faith?

It is wonderful to obey the Lord, to just know that you doing what God has given you to do. And to top it all off, if He has told you to do something that you are good at and have had a lot of experience with, so much the better, right? After all, you can be confident and assured that it is going to turn out just great. You have God on your side and you are good at what you are called on to do.

That is probably the way the disciples felt as they launched out that day with Jesus to cross over to the other side of the lake. Indeed, everything started out great: they had Jesus in the boat with them and it was a great day for sailing. A great day, that is, until two things happened — Jesus fell asleep and a storm came upon them quite suddenly so that they were about to sink.

There is no doubt that Jesus had plenty of faith for the situation. He didn’t even need a boat to get across the lake, He could just walk on the water! But, this was a lesson for the disciples; a testing of their faith. Unfortunately, they failed the test but we can learn from their failure. They questioned whether Jesus even cared about their well being and they confessed that the storm was going to get the better of them.

Jesus is taking note of your obedience, but He is also looking for something else — your faith. You can be right where the Lord wants you to be and all of a sudden, a storm comes up! You might wonder why things are so difficult and where the Lord is in all of this, but in the end, it will all work out and you will realize that the trial, the testing of your faith, helped you to grow stronger and to answer a question Jesus is asking: “Where is your faith?”

You can know and be assured that God can do anything, that He is omnipotent, and still have moments of doubt that He will help you. There are going to be storms in your life, that is a given in a world that has known so much sin and disobedience and is waiting for its own deliverance. The storms are not a result of Jesus being asleep or not caring about you. The Lord is aware of every storm you face in your life (even the unspoken ones that are known only to your heart — and His!) and He will not allow those storms to destroy you.

But, the Lord is listening to hear what you will say about the storms you face. Do you confess that you will be a storm victim or do you confess victory over the wind and the waves of life? Jesus has plenty of faith, but what about you? Where is your faith?
