Consider the Lilies

So, why did Jesus compare the glory of Solomon’s court with a field of lilies? To remind you not to worry about “things”. Solomon literally had everything money could buy and more wealth than he could have ever needed even if he lived to be one hundred thousand years old! After all, you can only spend so many tons of gold in a lifetime! Yet, when you look at a simple flower in a field and see how magnificent and unique it is, you realize what Jesus was saying is true — nothing made by man can even come close to the glory of God’s creation.

All around you every day are reminders to trust in God and not to worry about the things you need in this life. When you see a field of flowers displaying the array of colors the Lord painted them with or you look to the horizon as the sun is setting and see God’s daily display as He takes out His canvas and paints a sunset like no other; each day a priceless, unique masterpiece, then you are reminded once again that your life is in the hands of the One who does even the little things so big that you can only stand in awe of His provision.

If you aren’t taking time each day to “consider the lilies” then you are missing out and at the same time allowing the burden of worry to pile up on your shoulders. You may look out at a field of snow and just see a bunch of fluffy white stuff and miss out on the wonder of each individual snowflake fashioned by the Master’s hand, unique and awesome in its symmetry.

If the Lord takes so much care in the creation of the flowers that grow in the field and the daily display in the heavens as day wondrously transforms into evening and then into night, if this same God who created you gave such a beautiful and unique design to all of the innumerable snowflakes that gently fall to the ground in winter, then surely you can put your trust in Him to bring about every good thing He has for your life. You can rest in the knowledge that you are fearfully and wonderfully made by the same God who designed and continues to design the sunsets and the snow and the flowers. Consider the lilies!
