Among the biggest questions in life is the meaning of life, “Why am I here?” which leads to the questions, “Where did I come from?” and “Where am I going?” You can’t find answers to questions this deep just by looking outside at the clouds (or the stars or anything else in the created world!), these answers have to come from our Creator, not from His creation.
To understand the meaning of life, you must expand the scope of your inquiry to reach before the cradle and beyond the grave. The physical body is no more than dust — man was created from the dust of the earth and to the dust he shall return. Life on this earth is just a vapor, like the grass that grows today and tomorrow is gone. In the end, there will probably be a marker to represent the life lived with two dates on it and maybe a short saying of some sort.
If that is all life consists of, from dust to dust, then it would be no more than King Solomon declared as he began the book of Ecclesiastes: “All is vanity”, it’s like grasping for the wind. There is nothing in this life you can hold onto and nothing you can take with you. When you leave this world, you don’t even take the clothes on your back, so, you have to look for the meaning of life somewhere beyond what you will eat or what you will wear.
So, how do you find the meaning of life before the cradle and beyond the grave? You have to look to the Creator and to His Word to understand where you came from and why you are here and to know where you are going when you leave this world. You were created for a purpose and that purpose was established by the Lord before you were ever conceived. God knows the number of your days and He has a plan for each one of them.
The prince of this world would try to convince you that your life is insignificant and you are nothing more than an animal in a random world with no rhyme or reason to it. The truth is that God made you in His image and crowned you with glory and honor. Solomon finishes the book of Ecclesiastes with the answer to our question — the meaning of life is not from the natural world, it is born in God’s eternal kingdom: Seek the Lord and find Him. Give your life back to Him and learn His will for you and then do it. That’s the meaning of life!
