Faith is not about how things are going or how they may or may not go tomorrow or even five minutes from now. When those three young men were confronted by none other than King Nebuchadnezzar himself and commanded to bow down and worship a false god, their response was already determined by their faith in God and their commitment to Him.
When you are confronted with such a challenge, that is not the time to take a look at your faith and see if you really are that committed to serving God. You may not find yourself face to face with a king commanding you to dishonor God, but the testing of your faith can take many shapes and forms. Faith is going to cost you something; maybe not the threat of death like these three young men were confronted with, but still there is a cost attached to standing firm with the Lord and His Word. Maybe you will be ridiculed or put down or even rejected by family and friends because of your faith in God but it is a small price to pay.
And one more thing to consider: faith is not just surviving the test, it’s thriving even in the midst of it. The word of faith is, “Come what may, I will obey!” With faith, you are able to pass through the fire and not be burned or even have the smell of smoke on you. With faith, the fire does not destroy you, it just burns away the bondage and sets you free!
You can have peace and joy every day, come what may. Ask God to help you have the faith that does not bow down to idols or to pressure from others or to conform to what everyone around you is doing. Be willing to be the only one standing even if standing means facing the fire. Rest assured that God has not left you or forsaken you even in the middle of Babylon. He can deliver you from the fire if that is in His plan, but it is very likely that He is going to deliver you through the fire instead of from it. The fire purifies and burns away that which can be burned. Let God do what He will and say, “Come what may, I will obey!”
