The quest for truth has taken many people down a variety of paths over the years since the world was created. Unfortunately, all but one of these paths is a dead-end; there is no truth to be found down those paths. Still, many who seek truth are sincere in their endeavors and may even devote their whole life to it, but in the end, it doesn’t matter how long or how sincerely you follow a path, it’s only going to take you where it is going. If you are following the one and only path that leads to truth then you will find it. If you are following any other path, then there will be no truth to be found that way!
When Jesus was in the midst of His mock trial at the hands of Pontius Pilot, He was asked a very deep and pertinent question by Pilot, but alas, Pilot did not wait around for the answer but rather left Jesus and went out again before the people. And the question? “What is truth?” It would have been really helpful at that moment for Pilot to know the truth, but he was not willing to hear it even though he asked the question.
There is only one source of truth; God, who created the world and everything in it. The image of the invisible God on earth is our Lord Jesus Christ who, as the fourteenth chapter of John records, is “the way, the truth and the life”. Jesus is not one of many truths, He is the truth. Just because you believe something, that does not make it true. In fact, everyone on earth could believe something is the truth and that would not make it true! Five times God’s Word is referred to as the Word of Truth because only God’s word is truth.
Man is always trying to re-define what is and isn’t true, but it is nothing more than a delusion and deceit — all truth has been established by God and the truth is the truth. Just like the Lord never changes but is forever as He is, so the Word of God never changes and is established forever; and so is truth. What was true is true and always will be. It doesn’t matter what year it is or what century or what generation you are from, what is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. The truth is the truth!
There are plenty of ways to live life and everyone has a free will — you can choose the path you follow. Be careful not to follow a path that is declared by man to be the truth but is contrary to God’s Word. There are innumerable variations to what is considered the right way or at least the acceptable way to live, but there is only one way that is from God. In the end, you will see the result and the reward of following God’s plan and staying on His path. The truth shall make you free. How can you know the way to go? It’s simple really: the truth is the truth and everything else is a lie. The truth is what God says it is; that’s the truth!
