For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. Jeremiah 29:11-12
It sure would be nice to know what the Lord is thinking sometimes, wouldn’t it? The good news is that God’s Word (the real Good News) is full of details concerning the heart and mind of the Lord. He reveals to us much detail concerning His nature and His attributes throughout the Word of God.
Now, to get more specific, what is the Lord thinking about you right now and how does He feel about you? If you are God’s child then there is plenty of good news for you indeed! Everyone has a deep, basic need to be loved and accepted. This is put within you by God Himself; He has put eternity in your heart and that means you have a God-shaped hole, as it were, that is only filled and satisfied by the presence of God in your life! The Lord loves you with an everlasting love and you are accepted in the presence of Almighty God because Jesus Christ is your Mediator between you and God. You can cast your care upon the Lord for He cares for you. That’s just a little of how He feels toward you.
As for the Lord’s thoughts toward you, again as His child, it’s all good! You are on His mind as well as in His heart. Think of how Jesus contrasted earthly fathers with the Heavenly Father — the good gifts fathers desire to give their children pales in comparison to the good gifts your Heavenly Father wants to give you. His thoughts toward you are for good and not for evil. That is important to know and to remember; the Lord is never plotting evil against you. Never. His thoughts toward you and about you are for good things.
What about your future? No one can know their future, only God, and He usually is not telling! If there is something you need to know you can be sure your Father will make it known, but by and large, all you need to know is Who holds your future and to know that all of His thoughts toward you are for good. Therefore, you have hope in the future, not because you know what it holds, but you have faith that it will be good because God is good. All the time!
That does not mean that you will never have one of those days, it just guarantees that this too shall pass and, in the end, everything is going to be alright. In the day of trouble, God’s thoughts and feelings toward you have not changed, His plans for your future are unaltered. On the surface and all around you, there may be a storm raging but just above the storm clouds is a clear blue sky!
The Lord is waiting for you: call upon His name. Go to Him in prayer, He is listening. In fact, many times when you may be wondering where He is and why things are not going differently in your life, He is there. He is listening. Hard times do not define your life, but they can help to bring about growth and build character in your life, strengthening your faith and trust in the Lord. You know what God says about you in His Word and when trouble comes you know what to do — call upon the Lord!
