Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, Psalms 107:1-2
Life is filled with the age-old story of good versus evil. You certainly don’t have to look very far to see the effects of evil in this world and more than likely have come face to face with it from time to time along life’s journey. The Bible tells us that our battle against evil is not a flesh and blood battle, but rather a battle against the forces of evil that are at work within the world system in which we live. Certainly, the enemy has plenty of willing as well as some unwitting flesh and blood vessels through which to accomplish his evil deeds, but the source of all evil is the devil, that serpent of old that brought sin and deception into the very Garden of God!
Just as the source of evil in the world is easily defined, so is the one and only source of good. The only good in this world is the Lord. Goodness does not originate within the realm of flesh and blood, but it can be and is manifested through human vessels who are willing to allow the Lord to live through them. We give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and mercy for without Him we would still be under the dominion of the evil one.
After the Psalmist exhorts us to give thanks for God’s goodness and mercy, the Word of God tells us next to declare our redemption, for His mercy is not in vain. Jesus came to the earth for a specific purpose – the redemption of mankind. He brought salvation, but how can someone be saved who is in the clutches of a mortal enemy? After all, because of sin, the devil had a rightful claim on everyone who had ever sinned — which was everyone!
It seems as if one of the hardest things to do after receiving God’s love through Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death on the cross, is to forgive yourself; to see yourself as you are in Christ and not as you were when still being held as a slave of sin. God’s goodness is easy enough to acknowledge, and giving the Good News to friends and loved ones just flows out when speaking to them about the Lord, for you know what the Word of God says and you believe it. But to be able to see yourself being totally free from the hand of the enemy can be more of a challenge, for the devil is a deceiver and liar and will continue to lie to you as long as you will listen to him.
You have to be willing to take a stand against the lies of the enemy for you have been redeemed. You are no longer a slave of sin, even though you once were (along with everyone else living and all who have ever lived). When the devil tries to get you back within his grasp by bringing up your past, put him where he belongs — under your feet. As soon as you received the free gift of salvation, your debt of sin was paid. It did not change your past for your past is your past, nor did it cover up your past. Instead, Jesus paid for your past. The debt you owed was paid in full by the Lord Jesus Christ. So, if the enemy comes trying to collect on those debts don’t fall for his tricks, for those are debts that have already been paid. The debt of sin was paid by the Savior. The next time the devil tries to talk to you as if you were a sinner, you declare, “I am the redeemed of the Lord!”

Bless the Lord o my soul. Now that we have been redeemed and on our journey to eternity, it’s time to serve. Be doers and not heard only. God bless
