Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. 2 John 1:3
There are many blessings that come with being a follower of Jesus, with being a Christian. Many of these blessings are in the future — promises of what awaits on the other side, as it were. But what about right now? How about today? Probably most of the prayers going up to the Throne of God at any given moment are requests for blessings of one sort or another. After all, we are exhorted to pray without ceasing!
In the sixth chapter of Matthew, Jesus teaches us not to babble on like the pagans when it comes time to pray. Be specific and pray with faith. You cannot pray enough prayers or give enough to be worthy of His blessing. You can’t earn it or buy it. At the same time, the Bible is literally full of promises for the believer. Besides not being able to convince the Lord that you are worthy of His blessings, it is difficult even to convince yourself that you are worthy!
There may be times when your past seems to stand in the way of God’s promises being a part of your present life. Surely if you can remember your shortcomings and failures so well the Lord must see them even more vividly, right? That would be the case if it were not for a few supernatural blessings that God gives to every believer. Free to you but bought with a price; the ultimate price paid on your behalf by Jesus Christ.
So, if vain repetition will not help and if God’s blessings are not for sale, what can be done? How can you even approach God’s holy throne much less expect Him to answer your prayers? Because you have received the grace of God and it is always with you. God’s goodness is yours because He chooses to pour out His grace on you. His favor is upon you because He loves you and He has promised it.
But what about the matter of not being perfect, even after becoming a Christian? That means you are like everyone else — a work in progress. The Lord sees your frame and remembers that, in this life and in this mortal body, you are dust. One day mortality will put on immortality but in the meantime, you need a supernatural blessing from God. The good news is that you have already received this blessing as well and it is always with you. God shows you compassion and forbearance every day. That is another aspect of His constant love for you. If you fall down, He doesn’t leave you there; the Lord is always ready to help you back up. Call upon the Lord in your time of trouble and temptation and He will be there. He will never leave you nor will He forsake you. The Father and the Son are always there with you and for you.
The result of these supernatural blessings is yet another blessing — peace. Not a superficial peace that the world offers but true peace that rests within your soul and assures you that everything is going to be alright. Because of the faithfulness of God and the eternal, unchanging Word that He has given you, there is no doubt. The Lord has poured out His grace and mercy upon you and given you peace that surpasses all understanding. So, pray your prayers in faith and rest in His supernatural blessings, today and every day!
