And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:9
Many lessons relating to unseen truths can be learned from that which can be seen. The Lord uses the laws of the natural world we live in to teach us spiritual truths. Jesus used many references to things that were readily observable as He went about preaching and teaching the principles of the Kingdom of God.
One of the most popular areas He referred to was that of growing things. Even the setting that the first man, Adam found himself in back at the beginning of time had to do with this theme. The Lord could have just as easily created the Garden of Eden to take care of itself, but He chose to use growing things to teach some lessons in life. Adam was tasked with tending to God’s Garden!
In our verse today, the Apostle Paul uses the principle of sowing and reaping to teach us a lesson in Christian living. It’s always nice to be rewarded for doing the right thing, yet it seems as if many good deeds not only go unrewarded but even unnoticed. Paul mentions two things in particular that can happen along life’s sometimes rough and rocky road and in both cases, we are exhorted not to let them happen: do not grow weary and do not lose heart.
Chances are, you know exactly what he is talking about here. Perhaps you have had times in your life when you really try to do the right thing and it seems to get you nowhere. Or maybe you feel like it gets you less than nowhere. These are the times when you realize the importance of God’s promises and the examples in nature that you can see all around you. There are seasons in life just as in all of God’s creation. There is a time for every purpose under the sun. Reaping is the result of sowing but it is not necessarily an immediate result!
If you were to plant some corn seeds and come back every day looking for some mature ears of corn, you could grow weary. At first, the anticipation as well as the confidence in the outcome would have you expecting to see that corn ready to eat. You know you planted the right kind of seeds and you know what is surely to grow from those seeds. But if you do not take into account the seasons, you could grow weary and even eventually lose heart, doubting that you will ever see any corn crop and wondering why you bothered to plant the seeds in the first place.
When it comes to sowing and reaping vegetables, you can read on the package more or less how long it will be before you can expect a harvest. But when it comes to obeying the Word of God and making an effort to do the right thing, it is not always so clear-cut. If I do what God says to do and He has promised a certain outcome, why has it not happened yet?
You can be sure the Lord sees everything you do in obedience to His Word and in due season you will reap the reward. Do not grow weary or lose heart. Keep doing what God says to do and, at just the right time, the harvest will come!

This was definitely what I needed to hear this morning. I had a dream last night and this just confirms to me the message that God is speaking to me in this season. I even said those very words last night. “Was is all for nothing?”
